On Saturday the July 11, 2009 I took part in a procession/exhibition of art objects by Amanda Welch departing from her studio and taking a route through the park at Hackney. This procession signalled the end of a week long display at the studio (as a procession the week before signalled its opening). The Many Press has now issued this attractive record of the exhibition and the two processions with extensive illustrations of the work. The sketches and structures from this project grew from a recording of bicycle trips through Hackney Downs and a desire to make space for the contingent at a time when, as Welch says ‘painting gave up on me’.
